The following 'rule of thumb' guide aims to help entrants to get the basics right and avoid any classic mistakes when preparing their nomination form.
Do
- Tell the story and make it interesting
- For partnership nominations, work with your partner to write the nomination – it is very clear when these are one sided, and we need to hear both sides of your story
- Describe why yours is an outstanding and unique example
- Communicate clearly and succinctly
- Address all of the criteria, and ‘flag’ where you do so
- Adhere to word limits
- Include only relevant support material
- Include images and their copyright forms
- Make sure images are of high quality and print quality (Larger than 2MB in size and a minimum resolution of 300dpi). If you are unsure, send the original file from your camera without formating or altering it
- Make sure you show evaluation results and method
- Consider the word limit. If you are substantially under the limit you may not have included enough information for your nomination to be competitive.
- Include actual figures (eg. financial, audience attendance) as they help the judges understand what you are working with. All judges sign confidentiality agreements so the information would not be discussed outside of the judging process.
- Nominate in the right state – determined by the location of the arts activity or the headquarters of national touring activities
- Contact your AbaF state or territory director or the national awards manager on 03 9616 0315 should you have any questions while working on your nomination
Don't
- Don’t overload your nomination with arts and business jargon
- Make it dry and technical
- Include support material AbaF hasn’t asked for
- Leave out the benefits to your partner
- Be late with your nomination
