Arts leaders win business scholarships
Executive training for the arts – AbaF scholarship winners announced
The Australia Business Arts Foundation has announced a new round of scholarship winners in its program of executive development for arts managers, the AbaF Margaret Lawrence Bequest Scholarships.
Eight Australian arts leaders will participate in executive training at Melbourne Business School or Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) in Sydney. The scholarships cover tuition and accommodation fees, and travel for interstate applicants.
The total value of scholarships awarded is $79,000. The value of scholarships varies from $6,000 to $16,000, depending on which program the applicants have chosen. The successful applicants will participate in their programs during the first half of 2008. The successful applicants and their chosen programs are:

The successful applicants were chosen by a selection committee consisting of: Susan Alleyn, Senior Manager, Executive Programs, Australian Graduate School of Management, NSW; Jane Andrew, Formerly of Craftsouth Centre for Contemporary Craft and Design and Tutti Ensemble, SA; Marcus Barker, General Manager, Ten Days on the Island, Tasmania; Merryn Carter, Marketing Manager, AbaF; Eugene Fernandez, Program director, Mt Eliza Centre for Executive Education, NSW; Ann Tonks, General Manager, Melbourne Theatre Company; Julie Warn, Director, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
Since the program began in 2006, AbaF has presented 28 scholarships valued at a total of $243,000 to arts managers. More scholarships will be offered in early 2008, with applications to close on 18 April. For more information see www.abaf.org.au/skillsdevelopment/scholarships.html.
