Tips for successful nominations

The following 'rule of thumb' guide aims to help entrants to get the basics right and avoid any classic mistakes when preparing their nomination form.

Do

  • Tell the story and make it interesting
  • Describe why yours is an outstanding and unique example
  • For partnership nominations, work with your partner to write the nomination – it is very clear when these are one sided, and this is about a partnership!
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly
  • Address all of the criteria, and ‘flag’ where you do so
  • Adhere to word limits
  • Include only relevant support material
  • Include images and their copyright forms
  • Make sure you show evaluation results and methods
  • Nominate in the right state – determined by the location of the arts activity or the headquarters of national touring activities

Don't

  • Use ‘arts-speak’ or ‘business-speak’
  • Make it dry and technical
  • Include support material AbaF hasn’t asked for
  • Leave out the benefits to your partner
  • Be late with your nomination

From Tuesday 1 April 2008, you can view the nominations briefing presentation given in every state to clarify 2008 Awards issues and changes to this year's awards process.
