Tips for a competitive nomination
The following 'rule of thumb' guide aims to help nominees to get the basics right and avoid mistakes when preparing their nomination form.
Do:
- Tell the story and make it interesting
- For partnership nominations, work with your partner to write the nomination – it is very clear when these are one sided, and we need to hear both sides of your story
- Describe why yours is an outstanding and unique example
- Communicate clearly and succinctly
- Address all of the criteria, and ‘flag’ where you do so
- Make sure you show evaluation results and methods used
- Adhere to word limits
- Consider the word limit. If you are substantially under the limit you may not have included enough information for your nomination to be competitive.
- Include actual figures (e.g. financial, audience attendance, website traffic) as they help the judges understand what you are working with. All judges sign confidentiality agreements so the information would not be discussed outside of the judging process.
- Nominate in the right state – determined by the location of the arts activity or the headquarters of national touring activities
- Include only relevant support material
- Include images and copyright forms
- Make sure images on discs are of high quality and print quality (larger than 2MB in size and a minimum resolution of 300dpi). If you are unsure, send the original file from your camera without formatting or altering it
- Contact your AbaF State Director or the Manager Events and Special Projects on 03 9616 0315 should you have any questions while working on your nomination
Don't:
- Tell us what you think we want to hear – be honest
- Use motherhood statements – if you claim something, back it up with proof
- Overload your nomination with arts and business jargon
- Make it dry and technical
- Leave out the benefits to your partner
- Include support material AbaF hasn’t asked for
- Be late with your nomination
